SKIERS’ RESPONSIBILITY CODE

Observe the code listed below and share with other skiers and riders the responsibility for a great on-the-snow experience.

  1.  Always stay in control. You must be able to stop or avoid people or objects.
  2.  People ahead or downhill of you have the right-of-way. You must avoid them.
  3.  Stop only where you are visible from above and do not restrict traffic.
  4.  Look uphill and avoid others before starting downhill or entering a trail.
  5.  You must prevent runaway equipment.
  6.  Read and obey all signs, warnings, and hazard markings.
  7.  Keep off closed trails and out of closed areas.
  8.  You must know how and be able to load, ride and unload lifts safely. If you need assistance, ask the lift attendant.
  9.  Do not use lifts or terrain when impaired by alcohol or drugs.
  10.  If you are involved in a collision or incident, share your contact information with each other and a ski area employee.

Policies & Procedures
  • Keep as many of your group members at your vehicle until you have all of your tickets. Avoid bringing your entire group to the ticket line if at all possible.
  • Additional sanitizing efforts in place
  • Rental Equipment return process eliminates cross contamination amongst customers
  • Guests are encouraged to spend most of their visits outdoors.
  • All Snow Sports school lessons will be booked online and check-in can take place outdoors.

  • Ski Patrol
    • The Tyrol Basin Ski Patrol will be following any and all regulations put in place by the National Ski Patrol, CDC, Dane County Health Department, etc.
    • All Ski Patrol members will wear proper PPE when handling patients.
    • All Ski Patrol members will wear a mask indoors, and in any situation when social distancing cannot be achieved outdoors.

Facilities & Amenities
  • TONS of outdoor seating capacity for food and beverage patrons
  • Gas firepits in base area and on bar deck
  • Multiple Hand Sanitizer stations throughout the resort
  • Outdoor Lockers available for rent (cash required for rental.)
Recommendations
  • Plan to spend most of your visit outdoors. Dress in layers and bring a spare set of warm clothes.
  • Bagged lunches and other snacks brought by customers should be enjoyed while sitting at outdoor tables on our roof deck or in customers’ vehicles. Outdoor seating outside the chalet is reserved for customers who have purchased food and beverage at Tyrol Basin. As always, carry-in alcohol is not allowed on Tyrol Basin property.
  • Buy tickets and rentals ahead of time online at https://shop.tyrolbasin.com/lifttickets
  • Fill out forms and waivers ahead of time. Rental forms need to be printed and will be marked with proof of purchase upon arrival
  • Boot up in your vehicle if possible.

Covid-19 Policies

Tyrol Basin is always committed to keeping our customers, staff, and volunteers safe, happy, and healthy as they enjoy skiing, snowboarding, and tubing during the Winter Season. As always, Tyrol Basin is dedicated to being open for skiing and snowboarding as many days as the weather will allow.

Staying active and getting a daily dose of fresh air will keep all of us physically and mentally well.

Tyrol Basin continues to make necessary enhancements to our facilities, amenities, policies and procedures. Keeping our staff and customer’s health and safety is the number one goal.

SAFETY & HILL POLICIES

Warning to Skiers/Riders

Under Wisconsin law (Wisconsin Skier Safety Act, 2012), each person engaged in skiing/riding has a duty to do all of the following:

  • Obey all posted warnings and signs.
  • Keep off of closed trails and out of closed areas.
  • Know the range of his or her ability and engage in skiing or sledding within that ability.
  • Assess the difficulty of the trails and terrains that are open to skiing or sledding.
  • Maintain control of his or her speed and direction.
  • Be able to stop or avoid other individuals or objects.
  • Yield to other individuals engaged in skiing or sledding who are ahead or who are down the slope.
  • Not stop at a point that will result in the individual obstructing a trail or not being visible from above.
  • Yield to other individuals engaged in skiing or sledding who are uphill when starting downhill or when merging onto a trail.
  • Be able to safely board, ride, and deboard any lift serving an area open to skiing or sledding.
  • Board and deboard a lift only at designated sites.
  • If involved in a collision with another participant in a snow sport that results in injury or death, not leave the vicinity of the collision before giving his or her name and current address to an employee of the ski area operator or a member of the ski patrol, except for the purpose of securing aid for a person injured in the collision. A person who leaves the scene of the collision for the purpose of securing aid shall give his or her name and current address after securing the aid.
Warning to Snow Tubers

Under Wisconsin law (Wisconsin Skier Safety Act, 2012), each individual engaged in tubing has a duty to do all of the following:

  • Obey all posted warnings and signs.
  • Keep out of closed areas.
  • Know the range of his or her ability and engage in tubing within that ability.
  • Assess the difficulty of the terrain that is open to tubing.
  • Maintain control of the speed and direction of the tube or other device that is being used.
  • Comply with any posted limits imposed on the number of passengers or on the amount of weight of the tube or other device while it is being ridden.
  • Be able to safely board, ride, and deboard any lift serving an area open to tubing.
  • Board and deboard a lift only at designated sites.
  • Yield to other individuals engaged in tubing who are ahead or who are down the slope.
  • Look uphill and yield to oncoming tubes before leaving the bottom of the hill at the end of a run.

Helmets & Protective Gear

We highly recommend helmets in all winter sports, including tubing. The use of a helmet and or wrist guards may reduce the risk of an injury. Wrist injuries are not uncommon for snowboarders and wrist guards can help prevent injuries. Whether or not to wear a helmet or other safety devices is a personal choice. All of our full ski and snowboard rental packages include a helmet for free regardless of age or ability level. Make sure to check into all available options. Drone Policy

Tyrol Basin does not allow the use of drones by the public without prior authorization. All authorizations must be obtained by our General Manager. Any violation of this policy may involve suspension of your skiing or snowboarding privileges, or the revocation of your season pass or daily lift ticket.

Hazards

All fencing, poles, signage and other marking devices are in place to inform you of potential hazards or obstacles. The markers will not protect you from injury, and it is your responsibility to stay away from marked areas.

Retention Devices

All persons skiing or snowboarding must have a properly function retention device in their equipment.

Tyrol Basin Reckless Snow Sport Participant Policy
  • Skiing at a high rate of speed without regard for personal safety or the safety of others
  • Skiing at a high rate of speed in beginner areas.
  • Skiing at a high rate of speed near lift lines or in constricted areas.
  • Causing a collision or near-miss.
  • Failure to yield to uphill skiers when entering a trail from the side.
  • Failure to exercise due caution when overtaking another skier.
  • Failure to assure that the back side of a terrain park feature is clear before use.
  • Skiing while ability is impaired by alcohol or any substance, licit or illicit.
  • Skiing on closed trails.
  • Skiing out of bounds.
  • Performing an invert (feet higher than head) is not recommended.
  • Building jumps.
  • Swinging or bouncing chairlift chairs.
  • Any horseplay on lifts.
  • Throwing objects from lifts.
  • Strapping in a snowboard while riding a chairlift.
  • Blocking an off-ramp for any of the lifts.
  • Skiing out of the established track of a rope tow or bouncing the tow cable.
  • Unnecessarily blocking or impeding the normal flow of other skiers.
  • Tampering with, moving, destroying, defacing, or theft of any Tyrol property.
  • Failure to adhere to posted signage.
  • Any criminal activity, including theft of services by not having a valid lift passes.
  • The use of profanity.
  • Failure to follow directions of a Tyrol Basin employee.
  • Fighting or the harassment of another guest.

Both Tyrol Basin Ski Patrol and Tyrol Basin staff have the authority to confiscate any lift pass of a reckless participant in a snow sport A confiscation decision rests on the sole judgment of such authorized person. Options include, but are not limited to, suspension or revocation of Tyrol Basin privileges for any period of time. Disposition is at the absolute and sole discretion of Tyrol Basin management, and is not appealable in any court or under any legal theory. A reckless snow sport participant can be approached at any time, and at any location within Tyrol Basins’s area of operation, which includes the parking lots. For any criminal activity, Tyrol Basin reserves the right to prosecute. Depending upon the circumstances, Tyrol Basin Ski Patrol or Tyrol Basin staff may issue a verbal warning of reckless conduct instead of confiscating the lift pass.
