Parent Volunteering
We rely on help from our parents to run race events. All race families are required to volunteer at least once throughout the season depending on which program their athlete participates in. Descriptions of volunteer positions as well as a sign-up sheet for all Saturday Series races will be available at the start of the season. There are positions available on and off the hill, skiing is not required.

Travel Team parents (WIJARA)

Away WIJARA races (Chestnut, Sundown, TBD) – Every travel team family is required to gatekeep at least once during the 3 away races.

WIJARA Finale Race @ Tyrol – All travel team families are required to volunteer for at least one position per athlete.

Race Day

Schedule

  • All athletes meet coaches at the top of Bump Buster for course inspection at 9:30.
  • Race order will be U8, U10, U12, U14, U16, U18, U20 girls followed by boys in the same order.
  • 3-4 runs per race day

Spectators are welcome to stay and watch the race from the bottom of the hill.

Scoring

  • Each Saturday Series will have 2 “races”
    (best time of first 2 runs and best of second 2 runs)
  • Point scale:
    • Place: 1  2  3  4  5  6  7  8  9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20
    • Points: 50 45 40 35 30 26 22 19 16 14 12 10  8  7  6  5  4  3  2  1
  • Points are cumulative throughout the season
  • Top 5 (U8, U10, U12) and top 3 (U14, U16, U18, U20) in each age group/gender will be recognized at our end of year banquet.

Recommended Equipment

Helmet & Goggles
  • Helmet: Hard sided race helmet required for GS.
  • Goggles: A clear nighttime lens and an all-purpose daytime lens are recommended.

Goggles are required to be worn during all WIJARA races.

Skis & Poles

Skis (recommendations/guidelines):

Single set of racing skis (good for beginners or those new to racing)

  • U12 and under: turning radius of 11m or less.  It can be a slalom ski or not, but this radius can be used for all courses.
  • U14 and above: slalom ski with a length of 140-160cm (bigger, stronger, advanced racers can go a little longer), radius of 11-13m.  Focus is on slalom first, they will work for GS.

Slalom Skis

  • U12 and under: length- 130cm or less;  radius- 10m or less
  • U14 and above: length- 130cm and up; radius- 10-13m (high level skiers will be on 12-13m)

GS Skis

  • U12 and under: length- up to 150cm junior ski; radius- up to 16m
  • U14 and above: length- 155-175cm+ (based on size, skill & strength) junior skis for younger, smaller racers; radius- around 17m (can be up to 20cm+ for stronger, bigger, highly skilled racers)

Poles are required.

 

Other Equipment
  • Guards: Chin bar, shin & pole guards are recommended for advanced slalom racers
  • Team Jacket: Optional (orders will be collected pre-season)
  • Race Suit: Optional
